Down in the meadow where the corn cobs grow

Down in the meadow where the corn cobs grow,
A grasshopper jumped on an elephant’s toe.

The elephant cried with tears in his eyes,
Why don’t you pick on someone your size?

The Elephant’s Lullaby

In the jungle, late at night
All the little elephants are tucked in tight
Except that one little elephant won’t close her eyes
And so we sing the elephant’s lullaby

All the animals under the stars
Listen for the sound wherever they are
And by the light of a jungle moon
Big Mama Elephant starts to croon
She sings go to sleep, little elephant
Go to sleep (Chorus)
Little elephants need to get their rest
To grow up big and strong
To make their ears so big and floppy
To make their trunks so long

All the elephants like to play
Hide and seek and tag all day
They slide down trees and swim in the creeks
And take a long bath every day of the week
But at the end of the day
It’s time to hit the hay (Chorus)

So if your elephant has been up late
Is tired and hungry don’t hesitate
Just give ‘em some peanuts so they don’t cry
And then sing the elephant’s lullaby
It goes Go to sleep, little elephant
Go to sleep (Chorus)

Miss Mary Mack

Audio: .ram, .wav

Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack
All dressed in black, black, black
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back

She asked her mother, mother, mother
For fifty cents, cents, cents
To see the elephant, elephant, elephant
Jump the fence, fence fence

They jumped so high, high, high
They touched the sky, sky, sky
And didn’t come back, back, back
Till the fourth of July, July, July

Un éléphant qui se balançait

Un éléphant qui se balançait
Sur une toile d’araignée
Trouva ce jeu si intéressant
Qu’il alla chercher un deuxième éléphant

Deux éléphants qui se balançaient
Sur une toile d’araignée, ohé, ohé,
Trouvèrent ce jeu si intéressant
Qu’ils allèrent chercher un troisième éléphant

Trois…

autre fin:
Un éléphant qui se balançait
Sur une toile toile toile d’araignée
C’était un jeu tellement tellement amusant
Que tout à coup: Ba Da BouM!

autre version:
Un éléphant qui se balan-ance
Sur une assiette de faïence
Et comme cela l’amusait-ait-ait
Avec un autre il recommen-ence

Los Elefantes

In this song, “balanceaba” is sometimes sung in place of “columpiaba.” Children add one elephant to the spider web in each verse for long as they wish to continue singing.
A version of “Los elefantes” may be found in De Colores and Other Latin-American Folk Songs for Children by Jose-Luis Orozco.

Un elefante se columpiaba
Sobre la tela de una araña.
Y como veiron que resistía
Fueron a llamar otro elefante.

Dos elefantes se columpiaba
Sobre la tela de una araña.
Y como veiron que resistía
Fueron a llamar otro elefante.

Tres elefantes…

Cuatro elefantes…

Cinco elefantes…

One elephant went out to play

One elephant went out to play,
Upon a spider’s web one day.
He had such enormous fun,
That he called for another elephant to come!

2, 3, 4, 5…

Or as a group action song:

Description: All children sit in a circle on the floor. One child gets up and imitates an elephant with one arm dangling like a trunk, and the other arm dangling behind like a tail. The child then skips around the circle while everyone sings:

One elephant went out one day,
Upon a spiders web to play,
He / she had such tremendous fun,
That he called for another elephant to come.

The child then picks a friend to come and join him/her. The friend stands behind the first child in the same position holding hands, as if they are elephants in the circus. Everyone then continue to sing as the two elephants skip around them:

Two elephants went out one day,
Upon a spiders web to play,
They had such tremendous fun,
That they called for another elephant to come.

This continues with each new elephant picking a friend until everyone is up. Then everyone sings for example:

Five elephants went out one day,
Upon a spiders web to play,
They had such tremendous fun,
But the web it broke and they all fell down.
Everyone then falls to the floor.
